Christchurch-Akaroa (Day 10)

Akaroa, the much talked about tourist spot, 84 km by road from Christchurch. The name Akaroa was derived from Kai Tahu Maori for 'Long Harbour'. One could still see the French  touch and influence in this town as its history started way back in 1836 when the French arrived in Akaroa and established a settlement there.

Okay, interesting thing that I wish to tell you guys, is not the place itself. No doubt Akaroa is a beautiful place, nestled in a harbour, surrounded by hills...But after being around in this Kiwi Land, you would get used to it.  The landscape would not excite you as much since you have to drive almost 90 minutes  (if you do not make any stops) plus driving through the winding road uphill to Akaroa. And there are many places like that in New Zealand, minus the French influence. If time is not really not on your side, I supposed you could skip this place but if you could make it, then allocate half a day for this trip. If you are only in Christchurch and you do not get to see other places, it is worth going.

Back to the most interesting "scene"  we encountered was this... a herd of sheep being moved to another paddock. When the sheep are crossing the road, do not do anything, just watch them. They are very cute! I wished I could kidnap one of them and bring it back here...
